CSM (Ret) Karen Craig
Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Karen M. Craig was elected as the President of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) in August 2018. EANGUS is a professional military association dedicated to promoting and maintaining national security and fostering the status, welfare and professionalism of the men and women of the National Guard. EANGUS represents 460,000 enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of the Army and Air National Guard, their families, and over 300,000 National Guard retirees.
She is a Life Member of the association and has been active at both the State and National level since 1996. Her selection as the President followed four years of service as the EANGUS Secretary, and another four years prior to that as the Area VI Chair. She also served in every position in the Arizona Enlisted Association (EANGA) to include State President, Vice-President Army, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chair, and Newsletter Editor, as well as service on many State Association committees to include the 2014 EANGUS Host State Conference Committee.
CSM (Ret) Craig served in the Arizona Army National Guard and retired on 30 April 2009 with a total of 33 years of active duty including 3 years in the Regular Army, and 30 years in the Active Guard/ Reserve program. Primary duties included administration, personnel, recruiting & retention, and operations. Her leadership experience includes service as a Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Battalion Command Sergeant Major, culminating with her selection on 1 October 2002 as Arizona’s 7th State Command Sergeant Major, a position she held for six and a half years.
After retiring from the Arizona Army National Guard in 2009, CSM (Ret) Craig worked as a federal technician at the Phoenix VA Health Care System, where she served as the Administrative Assistant to the Medical Center Director and Administrative Supervisor for the hospital’s Executive Offices, until her retirement on 31 January 2021. She continues to provide assistance to the VA Hospital in a Volunteer status in addition to her work with other Veteran Service Organizations. She was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society in 2020. CSM (Ret) Craig resides in Tempe, Arizona.
